The Equi-Soft® girth should be tightened securely enough to stay in place without slipping, while still allowing the horse to breathe freely and comfortably. The elastic rings should be under gentle tension, but must retain enough elasticity to expand with the horse’s rib cage.
Be careful not to over-tighten the girth, even if it feels easy to adjust and the horse shows no resistance. If the girth is too tight, it functions like a traditional girth and can no longer provide the pressure-relieving benefits it’s designed for.
